The University of Redlands softball team has brought a national championship home to the Inland Empire, capturing the NCAA Division III title for the first time in program history. The Bulldogs completed a remarkable 48-6 season with a two-game sweep of Trine University in the Women’s College World Series, adding a national crown to an already impressive list of accomplishments.

After falling behind early in the championship game, Redlands rallied for a dramatic 7-6 victory. Among the standout performers was San Bernardino native Leila Gomez, who scored nine runs and stole four bases during the tournament.

Gomez was named to the All-Tournament Team alongside teammates Katlyn Gandara and Jenay Scott. Gandara was also selected as the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after excelling both in the pitching circle and at the plate. Their accomplishments helped lead the Bulldogs to a perfect 5-0 record on college softball’s biggest stage and capped a historic season for the University of Redlands.
