The San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra is inviting the community to be part of a one-of-a-kind musical experience during its annual “America, the Beautiful” Concert Under the Stars on June 20 at San Bernardino Valley College. After making history in 2024 with a record-breaking performance featuring 192 piccolo players performing John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever,” the Symphony is aiming even higher this year with a goal of 200 piccoloists joining together for the grand finale. Organizers are encouraging piccolo players of all ages and skill levels to take part in what promises to be another unforgettable night of music and community celebration.
Participants will perform alongside members of the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Symphony Conductor-In-Residence Raphaela Lacerda and Maestro Anthony Parnther. The event offers a rare opportunity for community members to share the stage with professional musicians while helping recreate the “wall of sound” that earned the orchestra its record-setting achievement. Organizers say the performance will also help celebrate the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary in a fun and memorable way.
As part of the volunteer community performance, each participant will receive two free tickets to enjoy the full concert and fireworks show from a designated area. Organizers say there is room for everyone “from age 8 to 80,” adding that if you can play the notes, there is a place for you in this historic community performance.
