In May and June, San Bernardino County Fire and local Fire Safe Councils will provide free wood-chipping services in mountain communities. These events are intentionally scheduled before the summer and fall seasons when wildfire risk is higher.

Chipping allows residents to reduce combustible fuels on their property and increase defensible space around their homes. These simple but essential steps play an important role in managing wildfire risks throughout the county.

Residents are encouraged to bring trimmed brush and branches with limbs up to 15 inches in diameter and 10 feet in length. Fire service personnel will only accept limbs and brush; grass, leaves, and pine needles cannot be chipped.
