Motorists traveling on State Route 38 (SR-38) between Mentone and Big Bear should prepare for significant traffic delays and temporary lane closures on Saturday, November 7, as runners participate in the REVEL Big Bear Marathon and Half Marathon.

SR-38 will NOT be completely closed, but several traffic restrictions will be in place:

Angelus Oaks to Jenks Lake Road: Beginning at 5:30 a.m., only upbound traffic toward Big Bear will be permitted. Downbound traffic from Big Bear will be restricted until approximately 10:00 a.m.

Angelus Oaks to Bryant Street: Multiple California Highway Patrol (CHP) pilot cars will guide traffic through the area from 5:30 a.m. until approximately 11:00 a.m. The system will operate similarly to a construction zone, with traffic moving in alternating directions. Expect significant delays and do not proceed without a pilot car when one is required.

Valley of the Falls Drive: The roadway between SR-38 and Canyon Drive will be temporarily closed from 6 a.m. to 6:15 a.m. Normal eastbound and westbound traffic will resume afterward.

Mentone and Redlands: SR-38 (Mentone Boulevard) will remain open, although motorists should expect delays as officers temporarily hold traffic for runners. Crafton Avenue will serve as the primary north-south route. San Bernardino Avenue between Wabash Avenue and Dearborn Street will be closed from 8:00 a.m. Friday, November 6, until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 7.

Important reminders: Allow extra travel time, follow CHP instructions and posted traffic controls, and watch for runners along the roadway. Residents of Angelus Oaks and Forest Falls will be able to travel through designated areas using pilot cars.

Please plan ahead, use caution, and share this information with anyone traveling between the San Bernardino Valley and Big Bear this weekend.
