On Thursday morning, Supervisor Dawn Rowe started early in Highland on the Point In Time Count (PITC,) the annual survey of the homeless population in San Bernardino County. The PITC would not be possible without the involvement of key community persons and volunteers from each city and our unincorporated communities. These volunteers help organize and implement the homeless count in their areas, utilizing their knowledge of where homeless individuals gather in their community. Key persons and volunteers include representatives of local government, social service providers, law enforcement, municipal agencies, educational institutions, faith-based organizations, local businesses, civic groups, neighborhood associations, nonprofit agencies and current and formerly homeless individuals.
The results of the PITC help communities secure grant funding and other resources to assist these individuals. The County is grateful to our city and community partners who make this annual survey possible. We also send our thanks to every volunteer who made it possible to make contact with the homeless population to learn more about their situations and to provide some relief supplies. Our hope is to get as many of these individuals off the street and into available shelter.
