San Bernardino County is home to breathtaking destinations that inspire awe, and the Third District stands out as a treasure trove of photo-worthy locations. In the past two months, “Destinations” in San Bernardino County’s weekly newsletter has featured six Third District locations, pointing to the wide array of unique experiences available in our part of the county.
Third District “Destinations” have included:
- Hercules Finger (Lucerne Valley)
A 60 to 70-foot granite monolith offering stunning views, hiking trails, and rock-climbing opportunities. Its natural beauty and serenity make it a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts. - “Transmission” Art Installation (Joshua Tree)
This 26-foot-tall sculpture, created by renowned artist Daniel Popper, is made from steel, concrete, and dichroic glass. This awe-inspiring piece represents unity, peace, and creativity, with ever-changing reflections. - Mountainside Pullouts (Crestline)
Scenic overlooks along State Route 18 provide breathtaking views and the perfect vantage points for stargazing. Recently, visitors enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime view of Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS from these locations. - Redlands
It is one of California’s oldest cities, with history and charm. Landmarks include the University of Redlands, Smiley Library, Kimberly Crest, and a vibrant downtown, making it a must-visit for history buffs and explorers. - Oak Glen Preserve (Yucaipa)
A nature lover’s paradise that includes botanic gardens, family-friendly trails, ponds, and apple orchards. Visitors can enjoy wildlife viewing, picnics, and freshly made apple treats at the Los Rios Rancho Apple Farm. - Green Valley Lake
A hidden gem of the Third District, it is surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest and provides an array of recreational opportunities. The lake is regularly stocked for fishing, plus visitors can enjoy boating, swimming, and camping.
