The San Bernardino County Transitional Assistance Department is again partnering with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to offer free tax preparation and e-filing through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The VITA program provides no-cost federal and state tax filing services to eligible individuals and families whose combined household income was less than $67,000 in 2024. With trained IRS-certified tax preparers handling returns, taxpayers can be confident they’re maximizing their refunds and claiming all eligible credits.

Eligible taxpayers may qualify for valuable tax credits, including the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) of up to $7,830, the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) of up to $3,644, and the Foster Youth Tax Credit (FYTC) of up to $1,154 for qualifying current and former foster youth. To qualify for the FYTC, individuals must have been in foster care at age 13 or older through the California Foster Care System, be between 18 and 25 years old at the end of the 2024 tax year, and be eligible for the CalEITC. Proof of foster youth status is required.

VITA services are available in Redlands, Big Bear Lake, Needles, Twentynine Palms, Crestline, and other locations across San Bernardino County. To book an appointment or find a VITA location near you, visit the San Bernardino County Transitional Assistance Department website or call 1-877-410-8829 for more details.
