Looking for a way to keep curious minds engaged during the summer break? The team at Big Morongo Canyon Preserve is once again opening its doors for Summer Science Fun, a free weekly program designed to connect children and families with the natural world through hands-on activities and discovery.
Held every Friday in July from 9 a.m. to noon, the program invites participants to explore a new nature-themed topic each week while staying cool beneath the preserve’s shady cottonwoods or inside the air-conditioned Nature Center. Activities include crafts, exploration stations, and opportunities to get an up-close look at the plants, animals, and ecosystems that make the Morongo Basin unique. Visitors can also use binoculars and microscopes to see nature from a whole new perspective.
According to Preserve educators, the program was created to provide children with meaningful activities during the hottest part of the year when outdoor recreation can be limited. The response to last year’s program was so positive that organizers are bringing it back for all five Fridays in July.
Summer Science Fun is free to attend and no registration is required. Families are welcome to drop in anytime between 9 a.m. and noon.
